Mr. Coffin is a member of the Litigation Team at Paul Frank + Collins with a focus on Complex Civil Litigation, Medical Malpractice Defense, White Collar Criminal Defense as well as Legislation and Government Affairs.

Mr. Coffin is part of PF+C's Medical Malpractice Defense Group, and dedicates a substantial part of his practice to representing physicians and hospitals in malpractice suits and other complex litigation.

Prior to joining PF+C, Mr. Coffin was with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont, most recently with the Criminal Division, where he represented the United States in a broad range of criminal matters including international narcotics trafficking, fraud and criminal enterprise investigations and prosecutions.  As an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division, Mr. Coffin represented federal agencies in a variety of civil actions including health care and defense contracting fraud investigations, tort and medical malpractice actions, constitutional claims, employment discrimination suits and Superfund actions.

Drawing on his years of experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Coffin will focus his white collar defense practice on representing clients in complex health care and financial matters, false claims litigation and securities and environmental litigation.  Mr. Coffin has extensive experience in a wide variety of pre-charge investigations, complex grand jury investigations, jury trials, appellate practice and sophisticated settlement negotiations.  As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he appeared in federal court representing the United States on a near-daily basis.

Mr. Coffin has also served as legal counsel to Senator Patrick J. Leahy, current Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on a wide range of legislative business including judicial nominations, crime legislation, courts legislation, Vermont projects and technology matters.  His focus in this area includes assisting clients with policy analysis, developing legislative initiatives, devising and implementing strategies to effect change through legislation or executive branch agency decision, and public policy and media strategies.

Prior to joining PF+C, Mr. Coffin was a litigation associate in Hale and Dorr's Boston office.  He also served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Albert W. Coffrin, United States District Judge, District of Vermont.
