Jack Sartore has deep experience in a wide range of matters including commercial and competition law, products liability, and medical malpractice. Jack has tried numerous complex cases to juries and judges in state and federal courts in Vermont, New York, Illinois, Colorado, and California. He has represented, individually and as active local co-counsel, national and international firms including Abbot Laboratories, American Red Cross, Beech Aircraft, Ben & Jerry’s, Dean Foods, Goodyear, Honda, Irving Oil, Johnson Controls, Mylan Technologies, University of Vermont Medical Center, Voluntary Hospitals of America, and Visa. Jack regularly serves as a mediator or arbitrator.

With his wife, Sally Coppersmith, Mr. Sartore runs Adams Landing, a Bed & Breakfast in Grand Isle in the heart of Vermont’s beautiful Champlain Islands.

  • Lead trial counsel in Chicago federal court suit representing Neuros, Montreal, Quebec distributor of Korean made turbines, as plaintiff in product disparagement suit. (2010)
  • Lead trial counsel for aircraft salvage company Pacific Aeromotive as plaintiff seeking to repair and resell former DHL A300 Airbus hit by terrorist missile over Baghdad, Iraq in 2003. (2010)
  • Lead trial counsel for Excel motorcycle dealership as defendant in Denver, Colorado state court suit alleging breach of contract and fraud. (2007)

  • Co-trial counsel in Fresno, California state court case involving allegations of undue influence of elderly matriarch in amendments to family trust documents. (2014)

  • Defended University of Vermont Medical Center and employee physicians in professional liability cases involving neonatology, obstetrics, thoracic surgery, spinal surgery and psychiatry. (2000-2015)

Products Liability:

  • Argued appeal of major auto parts manufacturer Johnson Controls in catastrophic injury case alleging defective seat design. (2014)
  • Co-counsel defending major tire manufacturer Goodyear in wrongful death action arising from alleged tire failure. (2009)

Toxic Torts:

  • Co-counsel for regional oil company Irving Oil in defense of State of Vermont’s suit seeking clean up costs related to MTBE gasoline additive. (2015)
  • Co-counsel in defense of major tire manufacturer Goodyear in suit alleging plaintiff developed cancer due to exposure to environmental pollution from manufacturing facility. (2011)

White Collar Crime:

  • Defended manufacturer of nationally known personal defense product on federal charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and to violate the Clean Air Act. (2011)
  • Defended water quality scientist charged with submitting falsified data to U.S. EPA. (2007)
  • Counseled Canadian wood products exporter under investigation for alleged conspiracy to commit U.S. Customs fraud. (2005)
