Michael Wasco is a Director of PF+C and leads the Patents + Intellectual Property practice and is a member of the Business+ Transactions team, working closely with attorneys across the firm to assist clients on a wide range of patent, trademark, and copyright matters. Michael counsels clients on intellectual property matters, including securing patent, trademark, and intellectual property rights; intellectual property strategy; and litigation and adverse proceedings. His clients include individuals, start-ups, emerging companies, and university technology transfer offices. He serves several multi-national corporations, operating in one capacity as lead outside patent counsel managing a patent portfolio of oil & gas technologies for a Fortune 100 company.

Michael incorporates knowledge of intellectual property law with of an understanding of the client’s business and technology to offer practical and comprehensive legal solutions. He works closely with clients to develop and procure copyright and trademark protection and to evaluate and broaden existing copyright and trademark portfolios. He also prepares and negotiates agreements to help clients leverage their valuable intellectual property assets. He also provides legal opinions on patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, and validity, while representing clients before the United States Patent & Trademark Office to challenge and defend patents in proceedings under the America Invents Act.

Prior to joining PF+C, Michael spent many years in practice at an NLJ “Top 250 firm,” a full-service IP boutique, and a consultant for a Fortune 100 company.
